From what I have heard, the locomotives were slipping on the tracks, that is how it got stuck, I have no doubt that they could have pushed through if they had grip. But then again I've never worked for the railroad..

Do you realize how much snow that is? Thats is hundreds of tons of resistance. The trains have metal wheels. Metal on metal, you figure it out.

I don't feel necessary to argue in depth on youtube, but seeing as your actually a pretty good guy, I actually might justify my argument. Full electric cars need to be recharged constantly, their recharge time outweighs their driving distance. That said, to maximise the driving distance, there is no possibility of adjusting this for driver enjoyment on that journey, fuel stations are very difficult since people do not wish to be "filling" for 3 hours. Electricity comes from coal, which pollutes.

@danwat1234 from the sound of the engine i'd say it's an EMD 645E3 turbocharged engine with 3.3k HP in every loco (so 19.800 HP in total). the same engines are in SD-40 locos (and variations). Croatia (my country) also has a small number of EMD locos (designated HZ 2063 class in Croatia) which are built like SD-40 models and have the same engine (their weight is reduced however to 120 tons).

This should be named like really nice turbo noices or so on :D
losiboy454 (52 minutes ago)
Wow, snow must have glued it together, lot of engines on there, that would be sweet to watch

Bogey def. from wikipedia:: "a chassis or framework carrying wheels, as on a train carriage or locomotive."

@lcht2 and Im glad you like my train clip

Newer charging and battery technology allows rapid recharging from high-power charge stations, and if the super capacitors now in development become viable, they can recharge fully in a matter of seconds. The days of the overnight or even 3 hour recharge will be past us.

You cannot just back a train up in this situation and just "ram" into it. You have to realize snow this thick and heavy is similar to running into a wall which in return could cause a derailmeant therefore causing more problems.

Other viable sources... it's called nuclear power. You're right, wind power alone cannot take care of our energy needs. Non-baseband sources like wind and solar power can only supplement other sources like hydro, coal and nuclear. Hydro power is pretty much at capacity and cannot be expanded. Coal and nuclear are the only two expandable baseband sources which are really practical, and nuclear is the cleanest.

Exactly, the SP and ATSF were rivals then and what they were absorbed by are rivals now, so how did these two locomotives get together? Or was the ATSF engine being leased?

That is ALOT of horsepower!
