Hi Tess! Thanks for the comments! I think you mean the Irish bouzouk -- which is about the same scale as the octave mandolin (also 8 strings in four courses). But it is tuned differently, most common is: G2 D3 A3 D4. The Irish bouzouki was adapted from the Greek bouzouki -- an Irishman named Johnny Moynihan started using a Greek bouzouki trying to imitate the sound of the Appalachian clawhammer banjo! The idea caught on I guess! (<: The "octave mandolin" tuning is G2 D3 A3 E4.
