The glitch happens in Crystal, as well.

The reason the ditto turns blue when you switch with a shiny is because dittos shiny form is blue.

This glitch can be used to get you a shiny ditto. Teach your shiny mimic, go find a ditto and send your shiny out as a lead pokemon, use mimic to learn transform for the fight. The ditto will use transform and turn into that pokemon. now let it transform again to copy your stats for IVs goto your party and now its a shiny. prepare for capture and boom. Shiny ditto.

It's not shiny. :3 It's a glitch that messes with the palettes.
