If the screw driver tester is faulty will your thumb or body get electrocuted? Is there any tester that does not require thumb to touch it to test? Thanks

Ok so when you do all this testing do you turn all the house electric off or keep it on , ive seen some say on and some say off so im confused , and say you turn it off then how can you check for a live wire when no electric is passing through the wire ?
