Isn't it weird, we can watch a person get chopped up but when it happens to a cat it's almost too much...

the last film just shows how disgusting humanity is for torturing real animals just to get a place on the "top disturbing movie charts" or maybe even the director's didn't even want to do that maybe they just wanted to get noticed, and if they intended to do that im going to start questioning if humanity should even exist in the first place.

I can watch a million and 1 things happen to a person in a movie but the fact that ppl actually harm innocent fucking animals JUST for a 2 hour piece of what most ppl would say wasn't even entertainment is complete fucking shit and I refuse to watch anything that has to do with it. People piss me off.

Melancholie der Engel doesn't have much discussion at imdb. One review there does seem to suggest that the animal cruelty is real. If this is true, then for all those people who wonder why groups like PETA and the Humane Society exist, this is one of the reasons. Maiming and killing animals simply for entertainment or for what the filmmaker considers "art" makes me question whether we, as a species, have really evolved all that much.

Finally! Someone who speaks the truth about Begotten! Its so boring the movie soundtrack is literally crickets! Don't tell me I didn't get it, cause you have to admit you didn't get it without looking up the meaning yourself either -___-

Your description of Melancholie der Engel was priceless. Also, totally agree about Begotten. Someone begged me to watch it once and said I would be extremely disturbed, but about five minutes into it I almost fell asleep despite my best efforts.

The Italian films of the 60s and 70s that killed animals onscreen were pure exploitation. The Mondo films opened the doors. The Italian Cannibal cycle (which began with Umberto Lenzi's Man From Deep River) was infamous for animals being killed. The only cannibal film that used the animal deaths for an actual purpose is Dedato's Cannibal Holocaust which continues to be a highly influential film in general. The Wild Bunch opens with a sequence where children kill scorpions by feeding them to fire ants.
