I think his design is fine but a new art style and model, that brings out the expressiveness you see in the 2D games and Uekawa’s illustrations would be welcome

I would love if Yuji Uekawa's art style came back on box art in some way. I think it would be a good idea if they experimented with different art styles on future spin offs instead of using he same renders

i’m fine with the model we have now but we can definitely have improvements. one thing i DESPERATELY want to see is more noodle-y limbs so sonic can fully embrace his rubberhose inspiration. i feel like this could lead to more expressive animation and more dynamic poses too.

My favorite Sonic Style Is from the Adventure era. I dunno, I like the curves and the hotdog shoes.

1:56 also the fact that sonic is very well animated in sonic unleashed! He has a lot of expressiveness and animated poses that actually works with the model, however as time goes on he's becoming more and more stiff in his animations as well, lot less bouncy or exaggerates movement within the games, or if there is, its kind of mish mashed in between lots of static poses, that just end up looking a little awkward. So a mix of both the artstyle and how he is animated is really what makes sonic feel interesting, immersive and well, sonic. One of the reasons I loved the cg cutscenes so much for the sonic franchise is because you get to see them fully animated to their potential

Early to mid 2000s was the best era with the best character designs and art style. Sonic was about attitude and that’s what those era did awesome with. Now the art style/designs is missing that attitude and slick look

I 100% agree. A Sonic model with the expressiveness and appealing design from something like Yuji Uekawa's art would be amazing.

I think Sonic's design from the Ralphs movies is a good example to make his current model more expressive

The modern Sonic character model looks like a plastic doll and I'm sick and tired of it.

Sonic Frontiers was supposed to be a new era of sonic. So I really thought they were going to change the Sonic model and the voice actor for the character

Sonic's model now has lost its edge and looks way too baby-ish. The main problem is there. Sonic is supposed to be a cool and edgy character and Uekawa's art expressed that very well. Hisanobu Kometani, the Sonic Battle artist also nailed it with the use of sharp silhouettes. Even the first Sonic Riders during the intro the art reflects the tone perfectly. Their main inspiration were graffitis, Sonic was frowning and his posture reflected his confidence, competence and aggressivity. The current Sonic always feels unsure and offenseless, he's round and bland. They tried to make a Mario out of him.

I love the heroes models. They don't seem to get a lot of appreciation usually. A cell shaded Sonic game would look sick.

4:19 this model and Oreo's...YEEEEEES! If this was Sonic's actual design in the games, that would be amazing

For as much as people want to talk about Classic vs. Modern Sonic, it's weird to think we've never truly capture the Sonic Adventure-era stock art in 3D models.

Awesome job bro, people love to pretend sonic fans are unreasonable when it comes to sonic design complaints, but you explained it all perfectly!
