"Well, if you can't see it and can't feel it, it can't be doing you any harm, can it?"

"what's that smell? It's smells like roast!" It makes me sick in the stomach to know that she's smelling bodies, but they're oblivious enough to think it's just some roast beef being cooked.

When you realise how horrible radiation sickness truly is, it makes this even sadder. You literally decompose while your still alive, and given the real life symptoms, this was a very, very tame depiction of how you die from it.

Rest in Peace Raymond Briggs. We're all so grateful for what you've left behind and taught us about the frailty and strength of the human spirit.

The paper bags were βt suggested for protection, as they were advertised. They were actually for body identification. The government didnβt want to panic the public and said it would help people survive.

The line "Give me cremation any time" is so chilling. This books has a very sugar coated version of what it's like to die of radiation poisoning. It would have been far better to have been "cremated" instantaneously and painlessly in the blast than to suffer a long and gruesome death like James and Hilda would have

The reason for the paper bags was not to protect the person inside. It was to cover up the person so that cleanup crews wouldn't have to see the faces on the dead bodies...

To watch them deteriorate day by day because of the radiation was heartbreaking, especially when James was singing to his wife and a trickle of blood coming out of his mouth.

It's really sad to see how bad their denial about their radiation sickness, I don't have anything else to say about it, it's depressing.

This was amazing, and the voice work really amplified the sad and almost terrifying feel of the book. Thank you for bringing this book to life.

1:05:39 - I think she knows their dying, but doesn't want to voice it. With how concerned she has been with presentation, she may think that should anyone come by, it would only be proper they were correctly concealed. She knows the end is close.

The way the man tries to keep his wife's spirit up really reminds me of how Rowlf tries to comfort his friend Snitter in the end of "The Plague Dogs." Both are heart-wrenching

These two were so oblivious throughout the whole story, it's really sad. but at the same time, that's what makes the story so good among other things.
