I didn’t know that Letterman was offered more than 4x what Leno was getting. He made out well with the way things went down. Not much to complain about there.

I was a fan of JC and Dave's show after. I always thought Dave should have been the guy to replace Johnny, but in the end I think it all worked out for the best.

I saw the Tonight Show live once and David Letterman was the guest host for Johnny Carson. It wasn’t very funny so based on what I saw Jay Leno was the right choice to replace the king.

NBC didn't even Conan the Tonight Show until they found out he was chatting with ABC or FOX to switch over to them for more money. then his show failed because he didn't know his audience. Conan started phoning in his comedy once he got the Tonight Show nod. This is coming from a once devout Conan fan. He completely lost his fun and orginality and spontaneity that made him unique. He only regained this for awhile during the writer's strike. I'd say the real legend during the post 2006 period was Craig Ferguson. that guy made a whole WORLD inside his overlooked nook.

Dave got robbed...pure and simple...Johnny wanted Dave to replace him...what more needs to be said???? Jay destroyed Dave's and Conan's plan to take over the Tonight Show franchise.....Jay's funny,but I never liked him as host of the Tonight Show

Dave had issues with nbc,which only explains why he always took shots at them,and if there was a issue then nbc should have done what it needed to do to settle things with him.

Letterman didn't get the show because NBC knew that Leno was better at comedy and telling jokes. Dave was kind of funny, but Leno was a true professional stand up.

I stopped caring after Johnny retired. Late night turned into bullshit, and is even worse now AFTER Leno and Letterman. Political demagoguery.
